Plantar Fasciitis is a multi-factorial problem as it can come about in a variety of ways. Essentially, medicine it is caused when the foot structure rolls in or collapses a bit too much, towards the instep side.
Other issues like having tight calf muscles or being overweight can add to it; but the main cause is in the foot structure itself.
The foot structure
The main part of the problem of Plantar Fasciitis is found in the structure of the foot.
There are three segments to the foot: the rear, arch and toe segments. The rear foot(heel area) is the most complex segment of the foot. A lot of people think the arch would be the most complex because it has so many little joints. But it is the rear foot that is the more complex segment.
Inside that rear segment of the foot are two major joints:One is the ankle; and deeper inside the rear segment is the Subtalar Joint.The entire weight of your body sits on that rear foot segment for the majority of the time you are on your feet.
The main cause of Plantar Fasciitis
Quite often, when the rear foot segment rolls in, it will drag the ankle and subtalar joints of the foot down alongside it and, in turn, the foot elongates and over stretches the fascial structure.
The Plantar Fascia,an inelastic ligament structure that runs under the foot from the heel to the toes, is not designed to have too much stretch and strain put onto it. So when these stresses happen they can lead to micro-tearing of the ligament, which in turn will cause inflammation of the ligament and structure.
